POTD: Avaya Red 8410 DCP Telset Attitash Grand Summit Resort | Bartlett, NH

This was taken at the front desk at the Attitash Grand Resort Conference Center in Bartlett, NH. This area in the building is where you can only spot the digital sets. The nearby bar, conference rooms and rooms use analog sets. There is no evidence of any attendant consoles ether.

I’ve frequented this facility during the spring time over the last four years for an annual conference. I no longer attend, and I like the place, so I went for the vacation this week. The people I used to see at the front desk were not working (or is no longer working there) to see if I could see the switch room.

Since the last year, they replaced their dated sets with newer ones – likely refurbished. In such environments where you could be answering calls over a hundred times a day, these mold-injected buttons actually fade and smudge as if it was ink printed. One 8410 took such a beating, that they actually took a Sharpie and wrote the numbers on the dial pad – because it actually smudged away!

According to the elevator inspection sheet (that is required to be in the elevator per to state law) the elevator was built in 1997. The Attitash Resort has changed in my lifetime, and matching the 8410 digital sets and the alleged age of the building would make sense. This is not owned by some major chain unlike the more famous hotel down the road, but it’s one of the few local, but enterprise like companies that use Avaya Red. So many places use Cisco or Avaya Blue (and some use Mitel.)

The wireless internet has been taken over by Time Warner Cable (yuck!) and the cable TV has been upgraded to their Business Class offerings. I’ve been in two of their markets over the last week, and I appreciate Comcast/Xfinity. Regardless, Time Warner Cable also provides voice, and perhaps TWC  may (or not) already know that Attitash could be a candidate to move to VOIP (although I’d suggest against that.)
