My Collection: Northern Companion Conference Phone

Acquired in 2016, this analog conferencing set for handsfree, full-duplex calling that predates the Polycom by a decade, was made by Nortel and was marketed in the late 1980s.

This set has not been tested. It came with a 6P8C connector but with anything Nortel back in the day for power injection, required a lot of experience of making Radio Shack like dohickies in the culture of the nerdiness of Northern of that time. Things had to be cheap and complicated. A schematic is available on the web so I am not fully in the dark.

It’s in very decent condition since many of the plastic sets in the mid 1980s for Northern was known to be very brittle. Better plastics came along when the Meridian 1 line was marketed near the end of that decade.
