the Merlin Legend became avaliable in 1990, and lived through 9 revisions of software. It succeeded the Merlin II, which was a digital phone system. Ironically Merlin II and Merlin Legend were still avalible for sale as new hardware for many years into the Lucent Spinoff. It was the release of System 25 and Merlin Legend that the infamous Merlin phone used a proprietary Analog Telephone Line... shh don't tell the System 75/Definity people because it was called a "hybrid" line. The ATL was the last line of post Merlin Classic systems where you could use the classic "voice terminals". The Merlin Magix released by Lucent in 1999 lived through another six or seven years before Avaya discontinued it in 2006 with a migration to a more IP friendly system known as IP Office.
